I absolutely love photographing old friends/family. There’s just something comfortable about it and generally it’s easier to get them to relax. It also gives me a chance to catch up and chat while we shoot and I always just feel so honored to be picked to capture this time for them.

This is T… her younger sister (well one of them.. she’s got three!! LOL) and I were bestest little friends in elementary school and stayed close throughout high school as well. She’s since moved out of town and I miss her. It’s so nice to be able to stay in touch with her family though.

T, thank you for such a nice morning… I can’t wait to meet the little one! Not long now!! :)

Enjoy!

On Christmas Eve we announced the winner of the Giving is Awesome experience. We had many nominations, but this one most touched our hearts. The family could not have been more deserving. Rob, (Dad) has been diagnosed with a terminal illness, but I tell you, meeting him you would never know it. His spirits were high and you could tell just by watching him that his love and passion for his family was deep and true. At the session a great time was had climbing trees, running on the grass, making silly faces and most importantly spending true quality time together. I love the beautiful family bond that shines through in all of the images, pure magic.

Love how Dad is trying to sneak in a kiss here…..hehe.

It was a true pleasure meeting you C family, thank you so much for inviting us into your life’s  and sharing your story.  We will hold you in our thoughts and pray with you for miracles.

Stuff | Lucy Lime

So just a few things to keep you all posted on the goings-on here at Lucy Lime:

* Our new project, Lucy | Life, is off with a bang and we have already had quite a few very moving nominations. Please keep them coming… the more people we can help, the better! Just be sure to check the nomination criteria before submitting. Unfortunately, at this time, Shannon and I can only accept submissions that match the criteria exactly. We hope, that down the line, we can acquire the means to be able to help other deserving families as well. You can find all requirements HERE or just click on the Lucy | Life link on the navigation bar above.

* The Langley Advance published a story about Shannon and I and our new venture with Lucy | Life. You can check it out online HERE or go to any local store here in Langley and pick up Wednesday’s copy.

* Have you started thinking about spring or summer photosessions for your child or family?! It’s already March and we’re starting to book up quick! So be sure to contact Shannon asap to book your session in the cherry blossoms!  ;)

* Don’t forget to subscribe to the blog before March 6th at midnight!! The winner for the Shake Off Those Winter Blues Contest will be announced here on the blog on March 7th. Good luck to everyone!!  :)

And the best way to end a post is a photo, so here ya go! I told ya I couldn’t resist posting more!!

Jillian and I, like all women, wear many hats. We are wives, parents, siblings, daughters, friends and photographers.  When it comes to our photography we are both equally passionate. Whether it is a the toothless grin of a young child, the messy face of a toddler or the flaky skin of a newborn we just plain LOVE  the story an image can tell. Like this one, taken just months before my father passed in 1981. It is the only photograph that we have of our whole family together. I was five, my little brother was 3 and my sister was still all snuggled up in Mom’s tummy. Dad passed right before she was born.

There is nothing more valuable to me than the photographs I have of my father, I have cherished them since I was a small child. Having experienced this tragic event so early in life and recently hearing many similar stories Jillian and I knew we needed to do something. After much discussion we have come up with a way that we might be able to help create something that will capture lasting memories for young families who are facing the un-timely loss of a parent, child, or sibling and we call it…Lucy | Life.

Six times a year, nominated Lucy | Life families will be selected to receive a full photography session, a 16 x 20 print and all the full resolution images on cd.

(The information below is linked on the navigation bar above for easy access).

Nominating a Lucy | Life family:
We recognize that this is a sensitive time for everyone. We hope to make the nomination process as effortless as possible.  Simply send an e-mail to: info@lucylimestudios.com, sharing with us the family’s situation, and why you are nominating them as a Lucy | Life family.  We will respond to gather additional information and discuss in more detail the family’s unique needs.

Please consider the following nomination criteria:
* Lucy | Life family must be nominated by a family member or close friend
* Nominated family must live in the Fraser Valley (i.e. Surrey, White Rock, Langley, Aldergrove, Cloverdale, Abbotsford, Chilliwack and Mission.)  Families currently living – or who have a child living – in a care facility or hospice outside of the Valley, in Metro Vancouver, are welcome.
* Nominated families must be facing the loss of an immediate family member
(mom, dad, sister or brother.)
* Family should be young, with small children (as we are child photographers, we would like to ensure we’re able to keep the focus on the children.)

The Lucy | Life Photo Session:
We appreciate this is a challenging time for our young families, therefore:
* Sessions will take place at the location of the family’s choice
* Each session is unique and will be tailored to each family’s particular needs.  Details will be determined upon consultation with the family.

We know photoshoots can be stressful for even the healthiest families, so we do everything we can to ensure the Lucy | Life session is fun and comfortable.  Our approach to photography is relaxed, playful and casual…we just want to hang out and capture the families doing whatever comes naturally to them.

Thank you for your support, and if you know a family that might qualify for this please share with us their story. We would love the opportunity to help preserve the memories of young families in this tragic situation.

Love, Shannon & Jillian

Giving Is Awesome – Winner – Lucy Lime

Hello Everyone and Happy Christmas Eve!! We hope you all are having a wonderful start to the holiday and are staying safe in this crazy weather!

As we mentioned in our post below, we are announcing the winner to our Giving Is Awesome contest tonight!!

First I must say that we are touched and inspired by not only the entries but also the people doing the nominating. ‘Tis the season for caring and giving and we just love that so many of you took that to heart!

So with further ado… the winner of the Giving is Awesome contest is Andrea and Glen! Without going into too much personal detail, this family has gone through quite a bit of tribulation this year and have quite recently been given some very hard news that will require strength and support to get through.

We honestly believe that this family will not only benefit from this gift of photography in the present but also for years to come.

Thank you to Kristy for the nomination! She wins a $250 print credit to use at any session in 2009.

Please note that YEY!! It’s CHRISTMAS!! Shannon and I will both be taking a step back from the cameras and computers for the rest of December to spend MUCH NEEDED quality time with our families. Most calls and emails will be returned then. **To all my newborn clients, be assured that I am available for any or all early births. So do feel free to send me a message to ensure we get the babies in at 10 days or younger.

Thanks everyone and have a wonderful holiday! See you in 2009!!!
