Being a family photographer is an amazing thing but any family or child photographer will tell you that running a photography business is no easy task. There are many things other than taking pictures that we must do to keep our business a float…..I won’t bore you with those details, but all of you who run small businesses yourselves know what I mean. We are not able to shut the door and leave work at work…we live, eat and breath our careers all the while striving to keep balance in our personal lives. Sometimes all this can be overwhelming, it can get you down….but then you experience a moment, a moment that is so pure it takes your breath away, it makes you pause and reminds you why you do what you do. Those moments happen when families show up with open hearts and feel the freedom to be themselves. In return  we can share the magic that we were so lucky to witness on that day in the form of a photograph, proof that there is love within all of us, a love that is shared with those that are closest to us. Those moments look a little something like this:

Meet sweet Nya. You might remember her mommy from this maternity session. We had so much fun that evening and they were a blast to photograph. Unfortunately, we couldn’t meet up for the newborn session so I was so happy to finally meet Nya today for her 6 month session. It’s just crazy how fast time flies and with sessions likes these, it makes so much more obvious.

Little Nya was definitely not herself today as she’s in the processing of teething, but it just doesn’t matter. This little girl was the cutest thing ever! It would be impossible to take a bad photo of her adorable little self!

Meet Nya!

Our baby whisperer Jillian has been a bit under the weather this week. :( Being child photographers our first concern is always the health and safety of the children we work with, so she asked me if I wouldn’t mind doing this session for her as little Hayden was already 16 days old and getting bigger and stronger every day. I haven’t done a newborn session in a very long time but she assured me I would do fine and supplied me with blankets and hats and other goodies for the session. I have the best business partner ever….and am glad to hear she is on the mend.

Hayden’s Mom happens to be a friend of a friend of mine and it was so fun to catch up! The last time we saw each other was 4 years ago…we were both bridesmaids in our friend Amy’s wedding, but I will spare you those pictures because this baby is just too cute and we all know that you would rather look at him!

Cinderella Playdate | babycheeks | Lucy Lime

Jillian and I had so much fun at babycheeks on January 31st for the Cinderella play-date! I don’t think I have ever, in my whole life, been in a room filled with so much magic. I know  that on the day, we all believed….even us adults. We laughed, we cried, and we were honored to be part of such a magical day that was so special for so many little ones. We captured some great images and can’t wait to share them with you! We are working hard to get them ready for viewing so if you were part of the day please follow here on the Lucy Lime blog or on the babycheeks blog for information on how to view them…coming soon!!

Secret wishes…

Jillians little one made it out to the party as well! Although she may not 100% believe in the big fat guy in the red suit anymore,  I sure can tell you that she believes 100% in fairy tales…

*love you Ash!

I had so much fun with a lovely couple today.  They’ve taken advantage of the January “birthday” offer we’re extending and came in for their complimentary mini-maternity session. I can’t wait to meet their new little baby in a few weeks! Honestly, I think this may be my favorite part of the job… meeting these awesome couples that come in expecting their babies. You can see the excitement in their eyes and hear it in their voices as they describe that it’s the first grandbaby on both sides or that the nursery is almost done or that they can’t quite think of a name, but they’re confident it will come to them when they see her beautiful face.

Whatever it is, I love listening to their stories and remembering what it’s like to be waiting… expecting. And in a few weeks when they bring this little baby back that they’ve been waiting for, it’s so wonderful to see every single expectation was fulfilled in this teeny tiny sweet little baby.
I love my job.  :)
